SWAMA Martial Arts is the original Beltran-lineage Muay Thai school in Imperial Beach, California — and the heart of Master Victor Beltran's 40-year teaching career.

The school sits at 1760 Palm Ave, a few minutes from the Imperial Beach Pier, and has been a fixture in the IB community long enough that students who started training as kids now bring their own children to the same mat. That continuity isn't an accident. It comes from a single coach building one school, in one place, over decades — without franchising the name or watering down the curriculum.

Imperial Beach is a unique part of San Diego County. The southernmost beach city on the West Coast. A surf town. A military community connected to NOLF Imperial Beach, Naval Base Coronado, and the Silver Strand training complex. A place where families have lived for generations alongside Coronado, San Ysidro, and the broader South San Diego area. SWAMA was built for this community specifically, and the way the school is structured reflects that.

Authentic Muay Thai is the foundation. Master Beltran teaches what he learned and refined over four decades — striking, footwork, conditioning, defense — in a way that beginners can pick up safely and experienced practitioners can sharpen for years. Kids classes start at age 4 and focus on confidence, focus, and discipline. Adult classes balance technical instruction with real fitness. Self-defense is built into how every class is taught, not added as a separate program.

What we're not: a franchise gym selling rank progression, a cardio kickboxing studio repackaged as martial arts, or a competition-only fight gym that intimidates beginners. SWAMA is a real martial arts school in the traditional sense, taught by a master who has spent his life in the practice.
